President enables NSDC decisions on tariff setting, rules for working in electricity market
KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, by decree No. 452 dated August 28, 2021, put into effect a set of decisions of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) dated July 30, concerning, in particular, the issues of tariff setting and changes in the rules for working on the electricity market, as well as creating conditions for the environmental modernization of thermal power plants (TPP) and the development of flexible energy sources.
The president instructed the Cabinet of Ministers by one of the decree’s points, until September 30, 2021, "to develop and approve a plan for establishing a fair cost of electricity for household consumers," as well as to ensure the transition from a commodity to a financial model of special obligations to provide the population with electricity from October 1.
Another paragraph of the document obliges the government, by December 31, 2021, to approve "the procedure for a gradual transition to an economically feasible price of electricity for household consumers and the implementation of social protection for people in need of the government support and assistance in the context of such a transition."
