Poroshenko, G7 and EU ambassadors discuss supply of weapons to Ukraine, sanctions against Russia, prospects for NATO membership

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian member of parliament, leader of the European Solidarity Party Petro Poroshenko has met with the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union in Ukraine and discussed with them, in particular, the supply of food to Ukraine, the European Solidarity party said on its website on Thursday.

"Today we discussed the latest developments at the front, the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They noted the undoubted professionalism and courage of our army, operating according to the high standards of NATO. I do not tire of emphasizing that the more weapons there are, first of all heavy, the sooner the war will end with the VICTORY of Ukraine and the whole free world… We discussed ways to strengthen international sanctions against Russia, as well as to provide reliable security guarantees for Ukraine. I stressed that the guarantee of Ukraine’s national security is its membership in NATO," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.

According to him, during the meeting, the parties noted the importance of preserving internal unity in Ukraine, strengthening stability and carrying out the necessary reforms. "It’s about, in particular, ensuring the rule of law and the fight against corruption, preventing the politicization of law enforcement agencies, as well as freedom of speech and the media," the politician wrote.

Poroshenko also met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine Ricardo Lopez-Aranda Hagu and thanked the Spanish side for the political, economic, financial and military support of Ukraine. "We also discussed in detail further steps towards Ukraine’s gaining membership in the European Union and NATO. I highly appreciated the constructive position of Madrid on the issue of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership," the politician said.
