'Polish' scenario with migrants on Ukrainian-Belarusian border is still unlikely – head of SBI

KYIV. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Events with a migration crisis on the border of the European Union and Belarus are one of the manifestations of a hybrid war, and such a scenario is still unlikely on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov said after the end of the interdepartmental meeting on the protection of the state border held in Lutsk.

"Such a scenario is still unlikely. But we are working ahead of the curve and are doing everything to ensure that this, even the theoretical version of the development of events is not implemented in practice. Therefore, today we have gathered in Lutsk – to agree on measures to counter this manifestation of hybrid war. We do not just keep the situation under control, and we are carrying out all the necessary organizational and operational work," the SBI press service quotes Bakanov at a briefing after an interdepartmental meeting.

The head of the department also said that the SBU, within the limits of its powers, is actively applying a complex of counterintelligence, operational-search and criminal procedural measures.

The SBI also exchanges information with other law enforcement agencies, joint mobile groups are being created to work in border areas, etc.

At the same time, Bakanov is convinced that Ukraine will be able to successfully resist the next manifestation of hybrid war and maintain stability and security.

Earlier it was reported that a visiting interdepartmental meeting on ensuring national interests in the field of protecting the state border was held in Lutsk with the participation of the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine. The meeting was attended by heads of ministries and departments, law enforcement agencies and military formations, as well as heads of regional state administrations of the regions bordering on Belarus.
