Podoliak: Mass mobilization of Crimean Tatars in occupied Crimea is real genocide on ethnic grounds
KYIV. Sept 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The mass mobilization of Crimean Tatars into the Russian army in the temporarily occupied Crimea is a real genocide on ethnic grounds, Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, said.
“Forced mass conscription of Crimean Tatars in Crimea — a real ethnic genocide and an enormous tragedy for the entire nation. Forcing citizens to a war in the occupied regions is nothing more than Moscow’s attempt to cleanse the territory of a disloyal population,” Podoliak said on Twitter Sunday.
As reported, the Russian occupiers, as part of the mobilization announced in the Russian Federation, are massively sending out summonses to the Crimean Tatars. According to preliminary estimates of the public organization KrymSOS (CrimeaSOS), about 90% of draft notices in Crimea were received by Crimean Tatars, despite the fact that they make up only 13-15% of the population of the peninsula.
"Such a scale of mobilization can lead to a hidden genocide of the Crimean Tatar people," said Yevhen Yaroshenko, an analyst at the organization.
