Pobeda to hand over some flights to other airlines by end of Aug due to COVID-19 infections among pilots
MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) – Several aircraft commanders of the Pobeda airline company are unable to report for duty because of COVID-19, forcing the air carrier to delegate some of its flights to other airlines by the end of August.
"More than ten of our commanders are currently unable to fly: they were either in contact with someone infected with COVID-19, or have a positive PCR test result," a Pobeda spokesperson told Interfax on Friday.
Now the aviation industry is experiencing its highest peak and there is no one to replace the pilots, she added. For the August 26-31 period the company had to adjust about 50 flights (out of 1,600 over the period), including to Antalya, Ufa and Vladikavkaz, she said.
"We are hoping that some of the flights starting from tomorrow can be done by Aeroflot [Pobeda’s parent company], that’s about two or three flights a day, this is an important intra-group support. We also tried to organize alternative flights for our clients," she said.
Passengers on the corrected Pobeda flights are offered a departure on the nearest dates or tickets for flights operated by other airlines, of a full refund.
"Today, two scheduled flights, to Ufa and Vladikavkaz, were cancelled. We already refunded clients for these two flights and offered them a 90% discount for their next flight," the spokeswoman said.
