PM: We're creating broad coalition of states that will help speed up mine clearance in Ukraine
KYIV. April 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says that Ukraine is creating a broad coalition of countries that will help make sure that the mine clearance process does not last decades.
“We are creating a broad coalition of countries that will help make sure that the mine clearance process does not last for decades. The primary need this year is financial resources. According to the World Bank, the full range of humanitarian demining works will cost $37.4 billion. Only the needs for the current year reach more than $397 million,” Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.
According to him, the European Union, the United States, Canada and Japan are leaders in supporting humanitarian demining today.
“Some $16 million of international technical assistance has been attracted, there are preliminary agreements on another $73 million. We call on our partners to actively cooperate. In particular, the format of patronage of the G7 countries over the mined Ukrainian regions is promising,” Shmyhal said.
