Plane with about 100 evacuated citizens leaves for Ukraine from Kabul – Defense Intelligence Agency

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A civilian plane, carrying about 100 evacuated citizens, took off from the airport in Kabul (Afghanistan) on Thursday and is expected to arrive in Kyiv within 24 hours, the Defense Intelligence Agency of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense said on Facebook.

According to the agency, over the past few days, international negotiations had been held on the possible evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Afghanistan. Throughout the entire period, Ukrainian diplomats with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, representatives of the Defense Intelligence Agency of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and the Office of the President of Ukraine agreed on the possibility of evacuating Ukrainian citizens and their family members. Representatives of Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar and Afghanistan took an active part in the negotiations. The negotiations ended in success on the morning of September 23.

"Once again, Ukraine has demonstrated its decisiveness in helping its own citizens abroad, and also extended a helping hand to citizens of other countries who needed it," the message says.

"The Defense Intelligence Agency noted that the Ukrainian special forces showed high professionalism and once again proved that they can be reliable partners for the Western allies. "The successful actions of representatives of the Defense Intelligence Agency have brought our country to the top ten countries with the highest result in the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan," the message says.
