Pivdenny seaport reduces cargo handling by 22% for eight months
KYIV. Sept 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Pivdenny seaport (formerly Yuzhny, Odesa region), the largest seaport in Ukraine in terms of transshipment volume, in January-August 2021 reduced cargo transshipment by 22.05% compared to January-August 2020, to 32.775 million tonnes.
According to the data on the website of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), in the eight months of 2021 the port reduced the transshipment of export cargo by 17.65% – to 26.108 million tonnes, import – by 27.45%, to 3.806 million tonnes, transit – by 42.16%, to 2.787 million tonnes, cabotage – by 73.5%, to 73,660 tonnes.
According to the nomenclature of cargo, the port in January-August 2021 reduced the transshipment of liquid cargo by 15.01% – to 3.122 million tonnes, dry bulk – by 22.44%, to 27.313 million tonnes, packaged goods – by 25.85%, to 2.34 million tonnes.
Transshipment of containers for the specified period amounted to 143,559 TEU (less by 13.31%).
As reported, Pivdenny port in 2020 increased the transshipment of goods by 14.49% compared to 2019 – up to 61.665 million tonnes.
Pivdenny port was founded in 1978. It is located on the banks of the Adzhalyk estuary and is the deepest one in Ukraine. The total length of the berths is about 2.6 km.
The state enterprise Pivdenny Maritime Merchant Port has two own transshipment complexes in the specified port.
