Parliamentary humanitarian committee backs draft laws on ban of Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine – MPs
KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy backed three bills regarding the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, in particular on the ban on its activities in Ukraine, a member of the committee, Mykola Kniazhytsky (European Solidarity faction), has said.
"The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy unanimously supported three important bills regarding the Moscow church in Ukraine: No. 8221 – a ban on the Russian Orthodox Church and structures subordinated to it, No. 8012 – an address of the Verkhovna Rada to the Cabinet of Ministers on the free transfer of the premises of Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, as well as No. 8262 – on facilitated transition from the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine," he said on Facebook on Friday.
The deputy chairperson of the committee, Yevhenia Kravchuk (Servant of the People faction), in a commentary to Interfax-Ukraine, said that this package of bills was recommended for adoption by the parliament at the first reading.
