Parliament asked to denounce intergovt agreement with Syria on merchant shipping
KYIV. March 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers proposes the Verkhovna Rada to denounce the intergovernmental agreement with the Syrian Arab Republic on merchant shipping.
Relevant draft law No. 0191 was registered at the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, the website of the parliament reports.
According to the explanatory note to the bill, among the grounds for terminating the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the government of Syria on merchant shipping are the severance of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Syria, the recognition by Syria of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as independent people’s republics, and Syria’s support for the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation, which unleashed armed aggression against Ukraine.
The agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Syria on merchant shipping was signed on June 5, 2003 in Kyiv and ratified on February 18, 2004.
