Owner of apartment in Tbilisi where Saakashvili was in hiding charged with concealing crimes – prosecutor's office

TBILISI. Oct 4 (Interfax) – The Georgian prosecutor’s office on Sunday issued charges against the owner of an apartment in Tbilisi, in which former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who was on the wanted list, was in hiding.

The charges were brought against Georgian citizen E.Ts. for "concealment of crimes" in connection with illegal violation of the state border by Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, the supervisory agency said in a statement.

According to the prosecutor’s office, it was established during the ongoing investigation that E.Ts. was aware of Saakashvili being wanted by Georgian law enforcement agencies for committing a grave crime, however, despite this, he provided him with his apartment in Tbilisi.

The prosecutor’s office noted that E.Ts. was detained on October 1, and he faces a prison term of one to four years.

"It should be noted that in connection with illegal violation of the border by Mikheil Saakashvili, the Interior Ministry is conducting an investigation under Article 344 (illegal transportation of migrants across the Georgian state border or (and) creating appropriate conditions for them to illegally stay in Georgia) of the Georgian Criminal Code," the statement said.

Saakashvili was detained in Tbilisi on Friday.
