Over 140,000 houses destroyed in Ukraine during Russia's full-scale invasion – ombudsman
KYIV. Jan 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – More than 140,000 houses of Ukrainians, including 18,000 multi-apartment buildings, were destroyed as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has said.
"According to our information, there is only an approximate number of destroyed buildings – more than 140,000. 140,000! Of which, preliminarily, up to 18,000 are multi-apartment buildings, we count each of them as one object, while there might be up to 100 apartments in each of them," he said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
The ombudsman also said that approximately 4.5 million citizens of Ukraine lost their housing and property as a result of Russia’s aggression and moved to a different region of Ukraine. According to various data, up to 10.5 million Ukrainians were forced to flee abroad.
"The majority of these 4.5 million internally displaced persons, including 1 million children, 1.5 million people with disabilities, are women and senior people. Now, let’s take the citizens of Ukraine who fled abroad. There are various numbers. The UNHCR voices the number of approximately 9 million citizens of Ukraine. Some [organizations] say it is 8 million, some – 10.5 million," Lubinets said.
