OSCE presence in Ukraine to be implemented as new three-year support program – Secretary General

KYIV. Aug 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The OSCE presence in Ukraine will be implemented in the form of a new three-year support program, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid said.

At the second summit of Crimea Platform on Tuesday, Schmid said the ongoing war creates huge needs in the country. Ukraine, Poland, Sweden and North Macedonia as the current trio, as well as the vast majority of the OSCE member states, have declared their desire to continue the OSCE presence in Ukraine, and OSCE is implementing this in the form of a new three-year program support for Ukraine.

According to the OSCE Secretary General, her recent trip to Ukraine together with the Polish leader left an indelible mark.

She said that since then, the work of the OSCE has been more relevant than ever before.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.

Guterres said that attention to the territorial integrity of states is the basis of the international legal order.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić pointed to the correctness of the decision to expel Russia from the Council of Europe.

"Council of Europe experts have been supporting the Office of the Prosecutor General and other agencies in Ukraine. Together with the Ukrainian authorities, it has agreed on an adjusted action plan aimed at supporting reforms, strengthening institutions, including the justice system and the media, and helping member states support Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war," Pejčinović Burić said.
