One of victims of terrorist attack in Jerusalem is Ukrainian – embassy
KYIV. Jan 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A citizen of Ukraine died as a result of a terrorist attack in Jerusalem, the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel reported on Saturday.
"We are sad to announce that there is a citizen of Ukraine among the innocent victims. We express our deep condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the full recovery of the wounded," the message on the embassy’s Facebook page says.
At least seven people were reportedly killed in a shooting in East Jerusalem in Nene Yaakov neighborhood, and ten others were injured. The attack occurred when people were leaving the synagogue. Security forces shot and killed the assailant while trying to escape. As part of the investigation of this case, 42 people were detained on Saturday: they are being interrogated.
Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack, but representative of the Islamist movement Hamas Hazem Qassem said: "This operation is a response to the crime committed by the occupiers in Jenin, and a natural response to the criminal acts of the occupation."
