Occupiers torture citizens of Sri Lanka, victims suffer severe emotional distress – National Police
KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Citizens of Sri Lanka, who were under the Russian occupation in Kharkiv region and suffered tortures by Russian military, give evidence in Kharkiv, their condition raises concern, Chief of the National Police of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko has said.
"We can speak about foreign citizens. This is about Kupiansk. Six citizens of Sri Lanka studied at the local medical college… When the enemy forces entered Kupiansk, they [the foreign citizens] tried to leave for Kharkiv, but they could not do this. The occupiers detained them and took them to Vovchansk in the north of Kharkiv region," he said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Friday.
The occupiers kept the foreign citizens in the territory of the local aggregate plant.
"It was another torture room used by the occupiers," he said.
According to the police chief, the citizens of Sri Lanka are in Kharkiv now, giving evidence.
"Their emotional distress raises concern. They are scared. They underwent tortures… Two of them have their big toes denailed by pliers. Among them there is one woman, who speaks any language with great difficulties at all, that is why her condition raises concern," Klymenko said.
