Nykyforov: Normandy format is uncontested platform for ending conflict in Donbas, we urge Moscow to cooperate
KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Press Secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nykyforov said the immutability of the Normandy format as a platform for negotiations to end the conflict in Donbas.
"As for yesterday’s broadcast of the ‘View from Bankova’ program in the part about the Normandy format, it was exclusively about the question of the time and level of the next Normandy meetings, the format itself is beyond any question or doubt," Nykyforov said in a video statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday evening.
The press secretary also said that Ukraine, France, Germany are ready for contacts at the level of ministers and leaders in the near future, unlike Russia.
"My words were confirmed today by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian side remains the only one responsible for the delay in the Normandy format," Nykyforov said.
Thus, the President’s Office called on Moscow to cooperate to achieve peace in Donbas.
"We believe that the essence of negotiations is to obtain results, if the Russian side insists that the outcome should be known before the start of negotiations, this calls into question the negotiation process itself. We call on Moscow to cooperate, Donbas expects peace and Russia should contribute to its achievement," Nykyforov said.
