Nuland assures U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan not to affect relations with Ukraine
KYIV. Sept 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland assured that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan will not affect relations with Ukraine.
At the YES Brainstorming conference in Kyiv on Friday, Nuland said that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan does not mean that they no longer care or have strategic interests in Ukraine. According to her, there is no greater example of the United States’ continuing commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and European aspirations than the summit which just passed between President Joe Biden and President Volodymyr Zelensky, literally one day after the completion of the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan.
During the meeting, she said the "rich agenda" was not only in the Oval Office, but also regarding the future of relations between Ukraine and the United States, including a new forum between the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and a new forum between the Ministers of Defense of the United States and Ukraine, as well as commitment to do more in the cyberspace, counter Russian aggression and support reforms in Ukraine.
In addition, Nuland thanked Ukraine for its assistance in evacuating from Afghanistan.
