Novak: Ukraine shows freeloader approach, as if someone always owes it something

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Oct 16 (Interfax) – Ukraine’s stance in gas relations with Russia is surprising, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with Sergei Brilyov on the News on Saturday television program on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

"They [Ukrainian side] did not even say ‘thank you’, they’re also behaving as if someone always owes them something. Russia owes something, Europe owes something, the United States owes something. It is clearly a freeloader approach, claiming that you must use our gas transport system and you must supply to Europe so that we could get reverse supplies from there," he said.

"The question arises why you wouldn’t receive gas directly from the Russian Federation, it is the very same gas you take during transit and, therefore, pay 20-30% more for it. I mean, this is surprising," Novak said.
