No reasons to postpone operation of Ukraine's IPS in isolated mode within ENTSO-E integration – Energy Minister
KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko does not consider the possibility of postponing the operation of the Integrated Power System (IPS) of Ukraine in an isolated mode for several days, the first stage of which is planned for the coming winter as part of integration into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
"I see no reason why we should postpone it. Now there is no binding to dates, and we can say when we want to work [in an isolated mode]. I think ENTSO-E will take it calmly," Haluschenko said in an exclusive interview with the agency Interfax-Ukraine.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that synchronization of the Ukrainian and European power systems is a mutual interest.
"The European power system needs Ukraine as much as we need Europe. We do not stand naked and barefoot with an outstretched hand. Firstly, our power system will technically make it possible to better balance the European one, and secondly, at least we have ‘green,’ nuclear generation," the minister noted.
At the same time, he added that the issue of integration must be dealt with at the highest political level.
"The decision on our synchronization will be made by the system operators, but with taking into account the opinion of the governments. Therefore, we have created a separate working group for integration into ENTSO-E, we are analyzing what, how and at what level should be done, and we are doing it," the Minister of Energy said.
According to presidential decree No. 452/2021 promulgated on Monday, which approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of July 30, 2021 on measures to neutralize threats in the energy sector, the Cabinet of Ministers must, by October 31, intensify work on Ukraine’s integration into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), in accordance with the international obligations undertaken by the state.
