No mass return of Russian military to their places of deployment after completion of Zapad-2021 exercises recorded – Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief
KYIV. Sept 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian command does not record the massive return of the battalion-tactical groups of the Russian army to the places of permanent deployment, despite the completion of the Zapad-2021 exercises, said Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny.
"Despite the fact that on September 16 it was officially shown on TV that the ceremonial closing [of the exercises] took place, at present we do not record a massive return to the points of permanent deployment of those battalion-tactical groups that have come out for reinforcement. And there were already 19 of them as of today, which appeared additionally, first of all, during these exercises both on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and on the territory of the Russian Federation," he said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
According to Zaluzhny, these battalion-tactical groups continue to carry out tasks in the Southern Military District of Russia. According to the commander, each such group has about a thousand people.
"They do not stand with machine guns along our border. They are in the appropriate areas close to the state border," he said.
Zaluzhny added that some military men returned to their places of deployment to vote in elections to the Russian State Duma, so some movements are recorded, "but we cannot relax at all at the moment."
