No citizens or companies of Russia influence Kyivstar – company
KYIV. Oct 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Kyivstar mobile operator has stated that there is no influence on the company from both Russia and persons who are citizens of the aggressor country.
"Kyivstar is registered in Ukraine and operates exclusively in accordance with the laws of Ukraine. No citizens or companies of the Russian Federation have any influence on Kyivstar, do not exercise control over the company and do not receive financial benefits from the company’s activities. The main shareholder of Kyivstar is the international telecom group VEON. VEON shares are freely floated on the stock exchanges of the United States and the Netherlands and their owners are hundreds of individuals and legal entities from all over the world," the company’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine, commenting on the sanctions list of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, approved by presidential decree No. 726 dated October 19, 2022.
In particular, among the shareholders of VEON are Exor NB (Italy), Shah Capital (the USA), Stitching AMD (the Netherlands) and others.
"None of the buyers of VEON shares has influence on the activities of Kyivstar. Kyivstar is managed by an independent supervisory board, which includes citizens of Ukraine, the United States, the European Union and Turkey. The Kyivstar supervisory board is autonomous in making decisions on operating activities and the company’s strategy," the press service said.
Also, according to the operator, two of the members of the company’s supervisory board are under Russian sanctions for their patriotic activities.
Kyivstar also reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the operator has transferred more than UAH 104 million for the humanitarian needs of the military, hospitals and the elderly.
The company also provided subscribers with bonuses and free services in the amount of UAH 563 million, allocated UAH 300 million to restore the digital infrastructure of Ukraine as part of the United24 platform, connected 1,280 bomb shelters and 600 modular houses for IDPs to the free Internet.
As reported, in May 2022, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, Kyivstar President Oleksandr Komarov, as an expert in the telecom market with many years of experience, said that the VEON international holding would not be able to operate simultaneously with both Russian and Ukrainian telecom assets for a long time.
