KYIV. Feb 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Nine outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) were recorded in Ukraine in 2022: three in Sumy region, two in Mykolaiv region, and one each in Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Kirovohrad regions.
As reported on the website of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the number of ASF cases last year fell to nine from 16 in 2021 due to compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements and timely localization of outbreaks.
According to the regulator, last year, 120,500 studies were conducted to identify bird flu among specialized and private peasant poultry farms, as well as among wild migratory and synanthropic birds. According to their results, no outbreaks of bird flu were detected last year.
In addition, in 2022, 42.4 million bird vaccinations against Newcastle disease were carried out in households (the spread of the disease was not allowed); 2.0 million serological tests for brucellosis; 4.2 million pets vaccinated against rabies; 1.6 million studies of bovine scoring for leukemia (17 unfavorable points remain in Ukraine).
Over the past year, 2.5 million vaccinations of farm animals against anthrax were also carried out (one case of anthrax was detected in Kyiv region); 6.5 million swine vaccinations against classical swine fever (no outbreak); 2.2 million tests for tuberculosis (no disease detected).
“The State Food and Consumer Service continues securing the implementation of all necessary diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic measures to ensure a stable epizootic situation in Ukraine,” the regulator concluded in the statement.
