New package of US military assistance to Ukraine includes ammunition for HIMARS missile systems, artillery shells – Pentagon
KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The United States will supply Ukraine with a new batch of artillery shells and ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS, as well as other military equipment, the Pentagon said.
In particular, the new package of military assistance includes "additional" ammunition for HIMARS missile systems, 36,000 of 105-mm artillery shells, 1,000 high-precision 155-mm artillery shells.
In addition, the United States will supply Kyiv with four anti-artillery radars, trucks and trailers for transporting heavy equipment, anti-UAV systems, mine clearance equipment, Claymore anti-personnel ammunition, explosives, small arms and ammunition, night vision devices, equipment for cold weather, the report says.
It notes that in total, since start of President Joe Biden’s tenure, the United States has allocated approximately $15.8 billion to Ukraine for security assistance. Since 2014, the United States has allocated about $17.9 billion to Ukraine for these purposes and more than $15.1 billion since Russia began the war in Ukraine.
“To meet Ukraine’s evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities,” Pentagon said.
As reported, Biden ordered to allocate a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $600 million.
Biden’s widely circulated memorandum states that he delegated the Secretary of State the authority to allocate to Ukraine an amount of up to $600 million.
It is allocated due to the reduction of expenditures on the articles of the Ministry of Defense.
