New package of US military aid to Kyiv not include US tanks – media

WASHINGTON. Jan 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – M1 Abrams tanks will not be included in the next package of military assistance to Ukraine, which the US authorities plan to announce on Friday, Politico reports.

The publication said, citing people familiar with the matter, while the next tranche will include additional artillery, ammunition and armored vehicles, likely Stryker armored fighting vehicles, the United States is not expected to sign a contract for U.S. M1 Abrams tanks.

The interlocutors said at present, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has no plans to send M1 Abrams.

According to one of the sources, this is due to problems with the logistics and maintenance of tanks, and not with the fear that their transfer could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

As the interlocutors of the publication specified, the package will probably include several Strykers, as well as ground-based small-diameter bombs.

At the same time, they reported that the U.S. administration refused to send long-range ammunition to Kyiv.
