New govt of Moldova sworn in
CHISINAU. Feb 16 (Interfax) – Members of the new government of Moldova led by Dorin Recean were sworn in in the Moldovan presidential administration on Thursday.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said during the ceremony that “the government is starting its work in a very difficult period, when the country is facing a lot of crises.”
“Our project for the country is Moldova’s integration in the European Union. We doing this not because we need to fulfil the EU conditions, we are doing this for our citizens. This is the only way we can preserve and develop democracy, speed up economic growth and boost our citizens’ living standard,” Sandu said.
The government will also need to work on strengthening the country’s defense, she said, adding that it is necessary to “continue the efforts to cleanse the judicial system.”
Sandu thanked former Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, emphasizing that the Recean government “will need to continue and increase efforts to develop the country” and implement the programs that have been started.
The Moldovan parliament approved a new government led by Recean on Thursday. Gavrilita tendered her resignation last Friday.
