New commercial vehicle market maintains increase of over 1.5 times in Jan-Aug

KYIV. Sept 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Primary registrations of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine (including heavy trucks) in January-August increased by 52% compared to the same period in 2020, to 9,700 cars, the Ukrautoprom association reported.

According to the information on the association’s website on Thursday, in particular 1,350 cars were registered for the first time in August – 22% more than in August 2020, but 20% less than in July this year.

The August result, according to the association, was the record for this month since 2014.

Citroen won the leadership position in August with a fourfold increase in registrations – up to 231 cars (in August last year, the brand took seventh place). Second place was taken by the July leader Renault – 194 cars and an increase of almost 2.5 times (a year earlier the brand was the sixth in the rating).

The third result was shown by Fiat – 133 registrations, which is 52% less than a year ago, when it was in the lead of the rating.

The fourth position, as in the previous year, is occupied by Belarusian MAZ with 99 new cars (8% more), and Peugeot closes the leading five with 89 cars (8% less), which was in third place in August 2020.

Ukrainian commercial car brands were not included in the top twenty best-selling brands in Ukraine, while in August last year the rating included ZAZ with 14 cars.

The association also cites statistics on sales of buses (including minibuses) in August, according to which primary registrations of these vehicles increased by 2.1 times compared to August 2020, but decreased by 31% compared to July, to 265 vehicles.

Citroen also holds the lead in this segment, although it reduced registrations in August to 81 buses compared to 130 in July this year, but only eight cars were registered in August last year (sixth place in the rating).

Volkswagen is the second with registration of 39 cars compared to 94 in July 2021 and one in August last year.

Etalon buses are in third place (33 registrations versus 22 a year earlier), the leader of last year’s August Ataman is in fourth place with 28 buses versus 40 vehicles.

The top five are closed by the previously unregistered Turkish Karsan buses (which are purchased by Kharkiv) with 14 vehicles.
