Net purchase of foreign currency by public since early Aug amounts to $250 mln – NBU Council head
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The net purchase of foreign currency by the population (in cash and non-cash) since the beginning of August 2021 amounted to $250 million, while since the beginning of the year net sales amounted to $1.8 billion, Head of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Bohdan Danylyshyn has said.
"Since the beginning of August, the net purchase of foreign currency by individuals amounted to $250 million, which has reduced the net sale of foreign currency by the population since the beginning of the year to $1.8 billion, of which $1.3 billion in cash and $500 million in non-cash form," he wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the strengthening of the trend towards an increase in the public demand for foreign currency will limit the possibilities of this market segment in maintaining the balance of supply and demand in the foreign exchange market.
Danylyshyn noted that taking into account the funds received from the IMF as a result of the SDR allocation, international reserves last week increased to $31.5 billion, which made it possible to reach 100% of the required level, in accordance with the composite criterion of the IMF.
