NBU performs debut exchange of noncash dollar for cash for $100 mln
KYIV. Sept 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has performed the first transaction to exchange noncash $100 million for cash to resolve the issue of a shortage of cash foreign currency at the cash desks of some banks, which arose due to situational logistical difficulties with the delivery of foreign currency from abroad, the press service of the regulator said on Wednesday.
According to the report, 12 out of 14 systemically important banks took part in the transaction and in the near future they will be able to replenish their cash desks with foreign currency cash and satisfy the demand of customers.
The next exchange transaction will take place on Monday, September 12. This time banks will be offered to exchange euros.
As reported, the National Bank will conduct noncash currency exchange transactions for cash as long as it is necessary and publish the results of the relevant operations on the day of the transaction on Facebook and Telegram.
The central bank said that such transactions would not affect international reserves.
