NBU head denies critical impact of power outage on work of banks

KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The current energy situation in Ukraine does not affect the efficiency and stability of banks, while the National Bank and banks have appropriate protocols in case of more serious problems, NBU Governor Andriy Pyshny said.

"I don’t think that the energy situation will have any critical impact, we have foreseen the development of such events," he said at a press briefing on Monday.

According to him, to date, backup energy supply systems and corresponding fuel reserves have been created, this issue is a priority for the NBU.

Pyshny also noted that the National Bank has appropriate protocols of behavior in case of problems and power outage.

"I assure you that quite a lot of different scenarios for the development of events have already been worked out, and we have a clear understanding of how to act and what to do: when, with whom, in what sequence. In fact, for each possible development of events, the energy situation was predicted, it was taken into account, this situation is in the focus of our attention today and, I hope, we will work, as always, efficiently and responsibly in this regard," the head of the NBU stressed.

Pyshny recalled that the baseline scenario of the NBU, which formed the basis for making the monetary decision, also takes into account a sufficient number of factors, including the unavailability of about 40% of the critical and energy system.
