NATO Secretary General threatens Russia with economic, political consequences in case of 'aggression against Ukraine'

BRUSSELS. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia will face significant economic and political consequences if it takes aggressive actions against Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said on Monday.

"Any future Russian aggression against Ukraine would come at a high price. And have serious political and economic consequences for Russia," he said at a joint press conference with Latvian President Egils Levits.

According to him, this is the second time in a year that Russia is concentrating a significant number of military forces near the border with Ukraine. Stoltenberg mentioned the heavy weapons deployed here by Russia, artillery, armored vehicles, drones, electronic warfare equipment and estimated the number of military personnel in "tens of thousands of combat ready troops."

According to him, such a concentration of the Russian military was not provoked by anything and is inexplicable, however, it increases the risk of misperception of the situation.

He reiterated that Russia is obliged to demonstrate transparency and reduce tensions in the region.
