NATO Sec Gen congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day, quoting Shevchenko, assuring of support
KYIV. Aug 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, congratulating Ukrainians on the country’s Independence Day, stressed that Ukraine will win and can count on NATO for as long as it takes.
“On Ukraine’s independence day I pay tribute to the brave Ukrainian women & men fighting for their freedom & their country. NATO has supported Ukraine since its independence & you can continue to count on NATO for as long as it takes. Ukraine will prevail!” he said in a video address posted on Twitter.
The NATO Secretary General stressed that the Russian war in Ukraine is the biggest crisis for the security of Europe since the Second World War and the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the entire Ukrainian people are showing great courage and determination.
“And under President’s Zelensky leadership, you are an inspiration to the world. I pay tribute to all those who have lost their lives or been injured. To all Ukrainian men and women who are fighting for their country, their freedom and their loved ones,” he noted.
Stoltenberg also added: “You can continue to count on NATO’s support for as long as it takes.”
He also expressed confidence that “Ukraine must prevail and Ukraine will prevail.”
