NATO PA ready to develop parliamentary dimension of Crimean platform – Kalnins

KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The NATO Parliamentary Assembly welcomes the creation of the Crimean Platform and expresses its readiness to develop its parliamentary dimension, co-chairman of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) Ojars Kalnins said at a meeting with First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and Head of the permanent delegation of the Rada to the NATO PA Yehor Chernev (Servant of the People faction).

According to the website of the Verkhovna Rada, Kalnins also said that the NATO PA was the first to create an informal support group for the Crimean platform, which will become an important contribution to the consolidation of the efforts of the international community in order to resist the aggressive policy of Russia and the militarization of the Ukrainian peninsula.

In turn, Stefanchuk informed the meeting participants about significant progress in legislative work for the implementation of Euro-Atlantic reforms, in particular, the adoption of laws in the field of security and defense, including On Defense Procurement and On Intelligence, the Strategy of National Security and Military Security.

Chernev suggested making the topic of security in the Black Sea region and countering the militarization of Crimea one of the priorities at the UNIC meeting in Odesa on October 26-27. He also noted the importance of involving Georgian colleagues and representatives of other delegations in the development and implementation of an effective strategy to contain the aggression of the Russian Federation.
