NATO Military Committee to hold Oct 7-8 meeting in Georgia

TBILISI. Oct 5 (Interfax) – The NATO Military Committee will hold its meeting in Georgia for the fourth time.

The Georgian Defense Ministry told reporters on Monday that the meeting will be presided over by NATO Military Committee Chair Robert Bauer and will be held on October 7-8.

The official visit to Georgia by members of NATO’s senior military authority once again confirms the alliance’s resolute support of Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and its Euro-Atlantic aspirations, the Defense Ministry said.

The visit’s program includes a joint plenary session with Georgia, during which members of the NATO Military Committee will be briefed in detail on the region’s current security environment and challenges facing Georgia, he said.

"The participants in the joint session will discuss issues concerning the transformation of the Georgian Defense Forces, Georgia’s cooperation with NATO and future priorities, including a policy to strengthen security in the Black Sea," it said.

During the visit, Bauer is expected to meet with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and senior Defense Ministry officials, it said.

Members of the NATO Military Committee will also visit the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center, the ministry said.
