Naftogaz making calculations for 2023/2024 autumn-winter period to effectively prepare for it – Chernyshov
KYIV. Jan 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NJSC Naftogaz, starting this year, is introducing the practice of early preparation for the next autumn-winter period, said its head Oleksiy Chernyshov.
"It will always be like this, starting this year, that we will prepare for two autumn and winter months at the same time. We cannot remember every year in September that the time has come and we need to get gas from somewhere. We are doing this in advance. Already now we are making calculations for the autumn-winter season of 2023/2024," Chernyshov told Interfax-Ukraine on the sidelines of Ukraine House Davos co-organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Western NIS Enterprise Fund and Horizon Capital.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that the next heating season will not be any easier than the current one, and Ukraine should rely on its own strength.
"The next season will not be easier, and we must rely on ourselves," the head of the company noted, pointing out that the company’s priority for today is to get through this winter and prepare for the next one.
As for plans for 2023, he called the increase in own production the main one.
"Ukraine in 2023 should be an energy independent country. And we will achieve this. We must increase the production of Naftogaz, and private companies must also increase it," Chernyshov said.
At the same time, he said that the guaranteed gas reserves that Ukraine has, in particular thanks to international partners, give confidence in the successful completion of the second half of the current heating season.
"Today I am happy to confirm that we have a guaranteed volume of gas until the end of this winter. There is a big role of our partners in this, in particular, the UK, the USA, Germany, France, Canada and Norway, as well as the EBRD as a bank, which is a tool in the implementation of this assistance," Chernyshov expressed confidence.
