NABU director: anti-corruption infrastructure must be ready for effective work to restore Ukraine after victory
KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The anti-corruption infrastructure must be ready for effective work to combat and investigate crimes related to the restoration of Ukraine after the victory in the war, says Semen Kryvonos, the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
Kryvonos at the conference “The Path to the Future without Corruption: Step-by-Step Instructions” dedicated to the presentation of the State Anti-Corruption Program for 2023-2025 in Kyiv on Wednesday noted that this program provides for “a number of structural benchmarks, which should be followed, in particular, by the NABU to achieve work efficiency”.
According to him, in particular, the matter concerns increasing the staff of detectives, operatives and analysts by 300 people, which involves making changes to the relevant law on the NABU. In addition, Kryvonos noted the need to create a state expert institution under the NABU.
He explained that the number of criminal proceedings in the NABU is constantly growing, revealed corruption schemes require a large number of detectives, resources, and time.
“After our victory, the recovery process and the allocation of a significant amount of funds to this process will follow. By this time, we must be ready with an anti-corruption infrastructure, the NABU must be organizationally able to meet these challenges and ensure an effective investigation into possible abuses in this area, control this process together with civil society,” the NABU director said.
That is why, Kryvonos said, it is necessary to increase the staff of the NABU.
“It is important to ensure the speed and efficiency of the pre-trial investigation,” he stressed.
