Multifunctional complex for solid household waste treatment near Kharkiv 95% ready – city council

KHARKIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The degree of readiness of a multifunctional complex for municipal solid waste treatment in Derhachi, Kharkiv region, is 95%, the press service of Kharkiv City Council reports, citing secretary Ihor Terekhov.

"According to him, by the end of the year all wells for the production of landfill gas and a sorting station will start working there … According to the technology, gas will be processed into electricity, which will be used for the complex’s own needs and for sale on the energy market. The volume of processed electricity will be up to 15 million kW per year," the report says.

According to Terekhov, the landfill will be profitable after the launch of the sorting line, because it will be possible to sell paper, plastic, wood and metal on the secondary market.

As reported, in 2017, the government approved the project submitted by Kharkiv Regional State Administration for the construction of a modern complex for processing solid household waste at the site of the existing landfill in Derhachi.

The corresponding order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was published on August 9.

According to the resolution, a project was approved for the construction of the complex for processing solid household waste with a system for collecting, utilizing landfill gas and generating electricity.

The total area of the site for construction is 39.6 hectares.
