MPs want to ban placing mushrooms of non-industrial production on market

KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As part of the harmonization of legislation in the field of circulation, safety, traceability and quality of food products with the current EU norms, the Verkhovna Rada may prohibit the sale of mushrooms on agri-food markets, except those grown industrially at enterprises.

The relevant norms are contained in bill No. 6248 on food products and other objects of sanitary measures registered in the Verkhovna Rada on November 1.

In addition, the bill removed the norm according to which the sale of animal and poultry meat, fish, honey, eggs, milk and dairy products, as well as products of plant origin on the agri-food markets is possible after its examination by a state inspector or in an accredited laboratory located on the territory of the market. The current document assumes that these goods can be allowed for sale only after they have been examined in an accredited laboratory on the market.

As reported, bill No. 6248 proposes to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with the EU norms in the field of the use of statements about their nutritional value and health benefits in the labeling of food products; ensuring adequate traceability of the origin of food products; control of their quality and the order of veterinary checks at the border.

The document introduces a legislative definition of a number of terms related to food products, and also brings the provisions on state registration of food additives, enzymes and flavorings in Ukraine in line with the current legislation and strengthens state control and liability for violation of legislation in the field of food safety and quality.
