MPs propose to Rada to recommend NSDC to apply personal sanctions to athletes of Russia, Belarus
KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A group of MPs proposes to the Verkhovna Rada to recommend to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) to apply personal sanctions to Russian and Belarusian athletes.
Corresponding draft resolution No. 8245 on approval of proposals on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to athletes from the Russian Federation, Belarus and other countries was registered on Tuesday, the parliament’s website reports.
The authors of the bill in the explanatory note call the names of Russian athletes who support Russia’s war against Ukraine, legitimize aggression and genocide of the Ukrainian people: grandmaster Sergey Karyakin, medalist of the World Cup in gymnastics Ivan Kulyak, two-time Olympic champion in figure skating Evgeni Plushenko, Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Alina Kabaeva, former world champion in boxing Alexander Povetkin
Andriy Kozhemyakin (Batkivschyna faction), Heorhiy Mazurashu and Zhan Beleniuk (Servant of the People faction) are among the authors of the bill.
