Most Ukrainians support joining EU, NATO – Socis poll
KYIV. Sept 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians support accession to the EU and NATO and consider the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko the most effective in international politics, according to the results of a sociological study conducted by the Socis Center.
According to the study, if a referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is held in the near future, 61.4% of Ukrainians would vote for it, while 26.4% – against. Ukraine’s accession to NATO is supported by 57.4% of the respondents, and 29.3% are against it.
Also, Ukrainians consider the fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to be the most successful in international politics. This is how 32.2% of the respondents evaluated his international activities. Some 17.7% of respondents consider Leonid Kuchma to be successful in international politics, and 8.1% – Volodymyr Zelensky.
The international activities of Leonid Kravchuk are considered effective by 7.4% of the respondents, of Viktor Yanukovych – 5.1% and Viktor Yushchenko – 4.9%.
In addition, 21.8% of the polled Ukrainians consider Poroshenko the most capable among Ukrainian politicians to effectively ensure the integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO, 16.1% – Zelensky, 3.6% – Volodymyr Groysman, 3.3% – Ihor Smeshko, 2,8% – Yulia Tymoshenko, 2.1% – Dmytro Razumkov, 1.8% – Yuriy Boiko, and 1.3% – Yevhen Murayev. The rest of the politicians did not gain 1%.
Ukrainians are also quite restrained in their assessment of the results of the Crimea Platform and Zelensky’s visit to the United States of America. Some 45.4% of the respondents noted that the holding of the Crimea Platform is an event that has no practical impact on the return of Crimea to Ukraine, 19.8% believe that this brings the return of Crimea closer, and 9.2% are convinced that it will complicate the return of Crimea.
Some 47.9% of respondents do not expect significant consequences for Ukrainian-American relations from the visit of the President of Ukraine to the United States, and 32.2% believe that this visit will have significant consequences for bilateral relations.
The survey was conducted on September 16-21, 2021. The results are representative at the national level in terms of age (over 18), gender, type of settlement (urban/rural) and division into regions. The survey was not conducted in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in the part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. A total of 2,000 respondents were interviewed. The statistical error of the sample is 2.4%.
