Mortgage lending in Ukraine falls by 25% in Jan – NBU

KYIV. March 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian banks issued 357 mortgage loans for UAH 449.5 million in 2022, which is 50% less than in January 2022 as for the number of such loans, and 25% less in their value.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said on Tuesday that based on the results of a monthly survey of banks, mortgages were issued in January by four banks that lent under the Affordable Mortgage and E-Оselia government programs exclusively in the secondary real estate market.

The weighted average effective rate on mortgage loans in January was 7.5%, while in December 2022 it was 8.3%.

Among the regions, more mortgage loans were issued in January in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv region – 83 agreements for a total of UAH 114.7 million (26% of the total volume), Volyn region – 42 agreements for UAH 50.8 million (11%), Rivne region – 36 agreements for UAH 40.1 million (9%) and Lviv region – 28 agreements for UAH 39.9 million (9%).
