Moldovan president says her country remains committed to strategic partnership with U.S
CHISINAU. Dec 7 (Interfax) – Moldovan President Maia Sandu has spoken in favor of bolstering strategic partnership with the United States at a meeting with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington.
"At the White House, I had the honor of speaking with Kamala Harris, vice president of the United States of America. I talked with her about our situation and principal problems that we face. We reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthening Moldovan-American strategic partnership," Sandu wrote on her social account.
Sandu said Harris and she "discussed joint efforts to maintain peace and order in Moldova and the country’s agenda in the context of the European integration process."
"I spoke about our desire to remain part of the free world and build a strong economy and state that values and protects each of its citizens. We expressed our confidence that Moldova will be able to achieve the goals it set with support from its development partners," Sandu said.
She thanked the U.S. for its support in combating corruption and for help aimed at improving competitiveness of certain sectors of the economy and overcoming the energy crisis.
Sandu has been visiting the U.S. since December 5. During her trip, she has met with U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and some members of the U.S. House and Senate. She also spoke at the International Anti-Corruption Conference in Washington.
