Moldovan president calls for withdrawal of Russian forces, ammo from Transdniestria
CHISINAU. Sept 23 (Interfax) – Moldova is committed to "the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces," Moldovan President Maia Sandu said.
"Our stance in favor of the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces remains unwavering. The same applies to the withdrawal or demolition of the ammo […] that constitutes a threat to the security and environment of the entire region. We are counting on the international community’s support for this aspiration," Sandu said in her speech at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
She said she was concerned about "the increasing number of security crises emerging" in the region.
"In a global, interrelated world, their consequences affect everyone. As for our region, we are seriously concerned about the deteriorating security in the Black Sea area," the Moldovan president said.
"We stay committed to the principle of a peaceful, political settlement of the conflict in the Transdniestrian region," Sandu said.
She also declared the need for elaborating effective ways to protect democracy in Moldova.
Disinformation and corruption are among "the numerous factors that endanger democracy," Sandu said.
