Moldova extends coronavirus state of emergency until Jan 15

CHISINAU. Nov 29 (Interfax) – The state of public health emergency has been extended in Moldova until January 15, 2022, according to a decision made by the Moldovan National Extraordinary Public Health Commission chaired by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita on Monday.

The coronavirus state of emergency expired on November 30.

According to the report, the commission said the epidemiological situation in the country is extremely alarming. A total of 5,391 coronavirus cases were registered on November 15-21.

"According to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the coronavirus situation is now getting worse in most countries of the region and the number of new cases is increasing rapidly. The countries with low vaccination levels suffer the most. Twenty-seven percent of the people in Moldova have been fully vaccinated. Members of the commission have made a decision to keep the existing restrictions on the national level with the possibility of revision in accordance with the development of the epidemiological situation," the government press service said.

Simultaneously, some coronavirus restrictions are lifted in Chisinau starting from November 29 as the epidemiological situation has improved considerably in Chisinau and some other populated areas. Only the Transdniestrian region remains in the red zone. Concerts, plays, athletic competitions are allowed in Chisinau starting from December 1 on condition of observance of social distancing and other measures to contain the pandemic.
