Missile defense is priority for leadership of Ukraine – Zelensky

KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Strengthening missile and air defense is a priority for the Ukrainian leadership, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday after a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"Missile defense is a priority for us today. I do not know how to solve this quickly. We have started these conversations and there are positive results regarding the supplies of NASAMS and IRIS-T as for the German partners … We are expecting several systems, so far we have not received any," he said.

According to him, this would partially close the air defense deficit. "We are also ready to work on this issue with France, Italy, Germany. It’s the same with the USA. I am also serious, but I have not yet received a positive reaction from Israel. Whatever it was, there are not so many states that can guarantee us the closure of the sky from the point of view of air defense. It is necessary to solve this issue around these five states," the president also said.
