Ministry of Energy confirms Ukrainian coking coal export ban imposed by govt
KYIV. Sept 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on amendments to Appendix 1 to government resolution No. 1424 dated December 29, 2021, which provides for the inclusion of coking coal in the list of goods prohibited for export.
"This decision was made to ensure proper preparation and passage of the heating season, in particular, the accumulation of sufficient fuel reserves for thermal generation," the website of the Ministry of Energy reported.
Another goal of this decision is to prevent abuse and manipulation of the quality of coal, which can be used in thermal generation during the heating season, and instead can be exported, the Energy Ministry said.
As explained in the ministry, state standards allow the use of coking coal as part of fuel mixtures for thermal power plants, thermal power plants and boiler houses.
"Thus, coking coal can be considered as a component of the fuel balance for thermal generation in preparation for the autumn-winter period 2022/23," the ministry said.
