Ministry of Economy: 5 mln IDPs lose their jobs, up to 3 mln able-bodied Ukrainians stay abroad
KYIV. Oct 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – More than 6.4 million Ukrainians left the country due to the war, of which up to 3 million are of working age, and another 7.7 million people became internally displaced persons, of which 5 million lost their jobs, Deputy Economy Minister Tetiana Berezhna has said.
"The vast majority of Ukrainians who left Ukraine are women, children and people over 60 years old. According to ILO [International Labor Organization] 2.75 million who left are of working age," Berezhna said at the international seminar, dedicated to the situation in the labor market of Ukraine, the EU countries and other states where Ukrainian refugees are fleeing the war.
She added that two-thirds of these Ukrainians have higher education, and almost half (49%) were employed in highly skilled professions.
According to the Population Movement Snapshot Dashboard based on data from mobile network operators, the daily number of people who were outside of Ukraine was about 3 million people during April-September 2022. This figure reached 3.2 million on September 25, 2022.
According to the data, 42% of those outside Ukraine were employed, 17% were not employed, 8% were students, 23% were pensioners, and 10% could not be determined.
According to mobile operators, 7% are under 20 years old, 11% – 20-29 years old, 21% – 30-39 years old, 16% – 40-49 years old, 33% – over 50 years old, 12% – could not be determined .
During the seminar, the participants developed recommendations that will help to respond in a timely and effective manner to the risks caused by the war in the labor market. The set of recommendations contains developments in four main areas: prevention, protection, access to justice and international cooperation.
