MFA: Ukrainian citizen dies in Poland, one of investigation versions is abuse of authority by police officers

KYIV. Sept 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Consulate General of Ukraine in Krakow interacts with Polish law enforcement officers in the context of the investigation into the circumstances of Dmytro Nykyforenko’s death and maintains contact with his family, said Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian consul is in Wroclaw now to familiarize with the progress of the investigation. We also expect the results of forensic medical examinations from the district prosecutor’s office of Swidnica, which carries out procedural management of the case," Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

According to him, one of the versions of the investigation is abuse of authority by police officers.

"We will make every effort so that all the circumstances of our citizen’s death are clarified, and the perpetrators are brought to justice," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson assured.

Earlier, Gazeta Wyborcza reported on the death of a Ukrainian citizen, 25-year-old Dmytro Nykyforenko, in a sobering-up center in Wroclaw. According to the ezine, they applied gas to him, beat him with fists and truncheons, and later he was strangled by police officers and an employee of the center.
