METRO Ukraine jointly with partners will equip 20 school shelters in six regions of Ukraine
KYIV. Aug 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – METRO Ukraine, together with responsible suppliers, within the framework of the Safe School social program will donate goods from the assortment of its shopping centers for the arrangement of school shelters in six regions of Ukraine, the company’s press service reported.
As reported, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in cooperation with the East Europe Foundation, launched the Safe School program in early August 2022.
"We, adults, must do everything in our power to provide a safe environment in which schoolchildren continue to receive valuable knowledge while studying full-time. To this end, the Safe School project has been launched, which METRO Ukraine and our responsible suppliers have joined. Together we will provide school shelters with the necessary equipment so that children can attend school, and during air raids it is safe and comfortable to be in shelters," said Olena Vdovichenko, the General Director of METRO Ukraine.
As part of the program, 20 schools were selected in relatively safe regions of Ukraine: Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy and Kyiv. Some 16 out of 20 schools will receive a basic shelter package. It includes electric heaters, emergency lights, first aid kits, water coolers and filters, seating furniture, furniture cushions, blankets, extension cords, materials for activities and games with children.
METRO Ukraine will transfer these goods from its range to schools through the social partner of the program, the East Europe Foundation.
The shelters of four schools will be used as model shelters, and in addition to providing the necessary equipment, they will be repaired in accordance with the requirements of the State Emergency Service.
