Metinvest's Kamet steel ships first batch of argon for needs of foreign market

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Kamet steel plant of the Metinvest mining and metallurgical group, created at the facilities of the Dniprovsky Metallurgical Plant (DMK, Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region), has shipped the first batch of argon for the needs of the foreign market.

According to the company’s information on the Metinvest Media website, Kamet steel continues improving and modernizing production processes to support the country’s economy. Recently, the plant shipped the first batch of liquid argon of the highest grade to an outside consumer in the amount of 19.5 tonnes.

Argon is produced in the oxygen compressor shop at the air distribution unit and is used by the plant for its own needs, in the technological processes of steelmaking.

"The oxygen compressor shop specialists developed and implemented an energy-efficient project to reduce losses during the production and transportation of argon. This made it possible to reduce gas losses by 4%, which now allows an additional 20 tonnes of liquid argon to be accumulated monthly," Kostiantyn Frolov, head of the oxygen compressor shop, quoted by press office.

As a result of the reduction in losses, the oxygen compressor shop fully meets the internal needs of the enterprise for this gas, and Kamet steel will be able to ship the accumulated liquid argon to the needs of external consumers.
