Merkel, Macron confirm readiness for meeting in Normandy format in Berlin – Reznikov
KYIV. Sept 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – French President Emmanuel Macron and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel have confirmed their readiness for a meeting in the Normandy format at the leaders’ level in Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov has said.
"The holding of the summit depends on all four leaders of the Normandy format. But we have an understanding there is a willingness of partners. They confirmed, the German and French sides, that their leaders are ready for this meeting, and they are ready to do everything through direct bilateral negotiations with the Kremlin’s head to invite him to this summit in Berlin," Reznikov said on the air of the ICTV television channel on Monday evening.
According to Reznikov, "the possibility of holding a summit at the level of the leaders of the Normandy Four not only in Berlin with the participation of Angela Merkel, but also holding the regular summit in Paris with the participation of the new Federal Chancellor of Germany has already been discussed."
"After Merkel hands over the post to the new chancellor, there will be only one leader of the Normandy format [Vladimir Putin], who remembers what happened in 2014 in person."
